From 2006 to 2013,  I co-owned a surf school and restaurant in Ghana, West Africa. The village where our businesses were located is near numerous slave forts, including Cape Coast Fort.  These forts capture in time and expose you to the horror of how people are stripped of their identity, forced to leave their homes, and are treated like commodified work machines instead of human beings.
